America's WETLAND: Coastal Erosion, Wetland Loss and National Consequences

America’s WETLAND: Historic and Projected Land Change in Coastal Louisiana (1932-2050)

America's WETLAND, one of the most productive expanses of coastal wetlands in North America, is now at high risk. This vast landscape, situated along the length of Louisiana's coast, is being lost at the rate of 25 square miles a year, which represents more than 80% of all coastal saltwater marsh loss in the continental United States. During the past 50 years, we have lost more than 1,000 square miles of land. In the next 50 years another 700 square miles will be lost if nothing is done.
